Stock & Asset Giving

Give More,

By Giving Differently.

Gifts of appreciated stock, securities, and other assets often allow donors to make a larger impact than a cash gift alone — while potentially reducing or eliminating capital gains tax.

Why Donors Choose Asset Giving

The Tax-Smart Way to Give

When you donate appreciated securities directly — rather than selling them first — you may avoid capital gains tax entirely while receiving a charitable deduction for the full fair market value of the asset. That means more of your gift reaches students, and less goes to taxes.

The Math of Asset Giving

See the Difference It Makes

A donor holding $50,000 in stock originally purchased for $20,000 would owe capital gains tax on the $30,000 gain if sold first. By donating the stock directly, that tax is avoided entirely, and the donor may claim a deduction for the full $50,000 fair market value — while the Foundation receives the full amount to support scholars.
